What to Do when Life Throws You a Curveball

Speaking of a curveball, two days ago on Valentine’s Day, I prepared all the information in this newsletter and was ready to launch something new and exciting. That same night I received new information that changed everything.

So today I have to rewrite the newsletter, but it’s still with new and exciting information!  🙂

This is definitely not the first curveball that Life throws at me this year (and we are only 2 months down this year).

I think many people may have the same feeling as I do. Perhaps with the US presidential election and new policy changes that lead to guests unable to travel overseas, or when seemingly-bad things just happen to really good people.

So what to do, when life throws a curveball at you?

1 – Embrace All the Emotions

Initially there is the shock. Different emotions may arise, perhaps fear, worry, anxiety, frustration, and so on. It’s important to allow yourself to feel these emotions, embrace and acknowledge them.

Even if you are too shocked to feel anything else, allow yourself to do so. You may find yourself in denial for a while – like this is so not happening, I’m dreaming.

That’s okay. Just be gentle with yourself. Rest well. Sleep early.

2 – Release the Emotions in a Healthy Way

It’s important to find a way that works for you, so you can release any negative emotions in a healthy way.

Jot down your feelings in your journal. Speak to a friend or family. Sweat it out. Color a mandala. Get a massage. Use flower essence, or any other types of healing methods that work for you.

If we keep these negative emotions inside too long, they may turn to resentment and manifest in a certain illness in the future.

3 – Trust and Surrender

Emotionally perhaps you still haven’t calmed down yet, and that is absolutely okay.

Instead of worrying, focus on repeating the affirmation similar to the below:

I trust that the answer/ solution will come to me in the right time.

Trust that if any problems arise or plans change, there must be a solution present already; it’s just that we cannot see it yet. Perhaps it’s not the right timing, or we are not ready to look at it.

For me personally, the answers would come to me mostly during meditation or Shamanic journeys.

A lot of time, I realize that it is my ego who doesn’t want to let go of the original plan or expectations, because my mind is attached to a certain belief.

I’m someone who likes to make plans (though I feel like I have learned to become more flexible as I live in Thailand). I had a plan for Museflower but now that plan had to be postponed. I then realized the unwillingness for the mind to “let go” of this plan was because it was linked to my belief that this original plan was part of my life purpose here on Earth, to help and serve others. If I didn’t get to carry out this plan, it could mean that I was not doing what I was supposed to do.

Turns out, my new plan is also service in itself. Perhaps it didn’t seem as ‘grand’ as my original plan. I’m still carrying out my life purpose but just not the way my ego, or my mind expects it to be.

So, check in with yourself and reflect on what kind of beliefs the curveball triggers for you. Be honest with yourself, there is no need to judge anything. Once you are aware of the limiting belief, this is now part of the answer you have received already.

4 – Acceptance

Finally, the big A word. As cliche as it sounds, we cannot change the outer environment. The only thing we can change is ourselves.

Remember that whatever choices or decisions you make, or do not make, always ask yourself if you are acting from a place of fear, or from a place of love and gratitude.

My last piece of advice is to accept the curveball with love and gratitude. It may take a few days, weeks or even months for the acceptance to happen. But yet again, just trust that it will happen one day.

Has Life thrown you a curveball recently? What did you do about it?
